The new school complex in Alfianello allowed our studio to face an interesting design challenge: creating a high quality building that guarantees low management costs and innovative spatiality for students.
The philosophy of the project, the particular reasons for the architectural and system choices are aimed at obtaining a complex qualified as an ACTIVE settlement that produces more energy than it consumes thanks to the large photovoltaic field installed on the roof of the school. The system will cover the entire energy needs of the complex by putting the additional energy produced into the network.
The complex is made up of three volumes: two buildings intended for school use arranged in an "L" shape according to the configuration of the lot and the gym, equipped with an independent entrance so it can also be used outside of school hours. The integration with the surrounding urban fabric was resolved with a series of design measures including the use of neutral tones for the facades to highlight the large window surfaces framed by colored carters. In addition, the entire complex is located at a lower level than the street level, allowing the building to develop in height without being dominant compared to the existing buildings.
